Meteor Showers
Did you know that a shooting star isn’t really a star at all? The streak of light racing across the sky, and thought by people to be a shooting star, is actually called a meteor. Sometimes the Earth passes through an area of sky that has a larger concentration of meteors and we have what is known as a meteor shower. There are at least 2 more opportunities to see a significant meteor shower before the end of the year – in mid November and mid December. Read on to learn about the science behind the phenomenon as you plan to see one of these cosmic shows for yourself.
