trueflix e-news February 2015
Teaching with TrueFlix orange star
In February, we celebrate groundhogs, love, and our most beloved presidents! Abraham Lincoln is one of the most recognizable and influential presidents in our nation’s history. Students can get closer acquainted to him by exploring the unit dedicated to his life, his career as a lawyer, and the many contributions he made to our history as the 16th President of the United States. Dedicate some time this month to exploring Lincoln's impact on the Civil War, Thanksgiving, and so much more.

  Project Idea
Calling all future White House correspondents! Have students "interview" Abraham Lincoln by pairing up to conduct a mock Q&A. Have students make a list of 10 questions they would like to ask President Lincoln, then explore his character and writings to help write answers he may have given.
A Penny for Your Thoughts?

  Melissa’s Tip
of the Month
Pondering why presidents have speech writers
  melissas tip of the month
The fact on the cover of the Abraham Lincoln book says, “Unlike most modern-day presidents, Lincoln wrote his own speeches.” Take some time to discuss what that means with your class, and brainstorm why modern-day presidents do not write their own speeches. Why would a president not write his or her own speech?
