Scientists have estimated there to be roughly 8.7 million species of animals on Earth, but new studies suggest that number could be much higher – as high as a trillion! That means there are millions upon millions of animals, each with their own characteristics and traits, sharing this planet with us, from microscopic mites to enormous whales. Some of these species are critically endangered, and could disappear altogether, forever.
